“The sun’s heat has been an important power source throughout the earth’s history. People have been using the sun as far back as ancient times for a source of power, and light, as well as keeping warm. However, it has not been given much attention as it is today. In the world we live in today, there are fears of dwindling natural fual sources like coal petroleum and natural gas; not to mention worries about pollution and global warming. It’s no wonder the use of renewable energy like solar power has become increasingly popular.
This is the reason solar power systems were engineered to harvest this source of alternative energy. Solar technology was used to provide electric power as well as for cooking, heating and ventilating homes and desalinating water. Familiar technologies such as solar calculators and solar power roof vents became commonplace. These solar powered equipments work in the same way as conventional equipment except that it is environment friendly and they save more money.
Because of the significant potential of solar energy, it has been consistently developed and researched in order to harness it with greater effect and efficiency. These made way to various concepts and inventions like solar updraft towers or solar chimneys, solar ponds and thermoelectric devices. Is it possible that we can use solar power in space? Surprising as it may be, this is actually being considered. It would be a huge breakthough in history of solar technology if it goes through and succeeds!
Solar power technology is becoming more important because it is practical and useful and meets current technological needs for clean and efficient power. With the way solar power systems have been developing, we can probably expect solar power for homes to be the standard for years to come.
